We offer a wide variety of courses for those 8 years and over. 

Bronze Star

This class is a great way to help be more successful in the next Bronze Medallion course. You'll develop problem-solving and decision-making skills on your own and in partners. You will learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills you need to save yourself and others.

If you have swimmer 7/8/9 know-how it is an asset. There is an extra fee to buy a CPR mask $19.50 needed for the course. You can buy them at our pool reception desk.

Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid

This course will teach you to understand the lifesaving principles in the four areas of water-rescue education; judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence methods and releases to prepare you for challenging rescues of bigger risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance.

You need to be 13 years or over or have your Bronze Star certification to take this course. There is an extra fee for the Canadian Lifesaving Manual $54.90, Bronze Medallion Workbook $6.80 and CPR mask $19.50 which you need for this course. You can buy them at our pool reception desk.

Bronze Cross

This class gets you ready for the safety supervision role and duties of assistant lifeguards in swim facilities. Bronze Cross essential for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certifications.

You must have a Bronze Medallion and Emergency or Standard First Aid certification from one of the following; Lifesaving Society, St. John Ambulance, Canadian Red Cross Society or Canadian Ski Patrol to take this course. There is an extra fee for the Bronze Cross Workbook $6.80 you need for this course. You can buy them at our pool reception desk. You will also need your materials from the Bronze Medallion course.

National Lifeguard and Recert

This course will help you to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard. It develops the basic lifeguarding skills, principles and decision-making processes that will assist a lifeguard to evaluate and adapt to different aquatic facilities and emergencies.

You need to be 15 years or over and have a Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid certification from one of the following; Lifesaving Society, St. John Ambulance, Canadian Red Cross Society, or Canadian Ski Patrol. There is an extra fee for the Alert: Lifeguarding in Action book $54.90 and whistle $10.00 that you need for this course. You can buy the book at our pool reception desk. You will also need your CPR mask from your previous course. 

Registration begins on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 for April and May programs.

Standard First Aid with CPR-C

This course includes CPR-C and AED training. We will provide you with comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR.

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board recognize this certification.

You do not need prerequisites to take this course. You will need to buy a Canadian First Aid Manual which costs $19.25 which you can buy at our pool reception desk.

Lifesaving and Swim Instructor

This course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate basic swim strokes and related skills. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, a variety of stroke development, drills and correction techniques. Current Swim Instructors teach and certify candidates in all levels of the Swim for Life program.

You must be 15 years or older and have your current Bronze Cross and Emergency First Aid Certification to attend. You will need to buy the Lifesaving Instructor Pack which costs $108.60 which you can buy at our pool reception desk.

Lifesaving Society Examiner Course

To be certified as a Lifesaving Society Course Examiner you must successfully complete the three-step process. You must be ages 15 or over to take this course.

  1. Successfully complete this examiner course with an Examiner Mentor.
  2. Successfully apprentice with an Examiner Mentor on one exam for a Lifesaving Society Lifeguard and Leadership Course you wish to be certified to be an Examiner of.
  3. Submit a completed Examiner Training Record and the certification fee to the Lifesaving Society.

Preliminary requirements: to take this course you must have taught, or co-taught, at least one course in the stream(s) in which you are seeking certification as an examiner.

Required manuals: Examiner Handbook. Award guide(s) for each certification the candidate wishes to examine (e.g., candidates wishing to become a Bronze Examiner must have the Bronze Medal Award Guide, or candidates wishing to become a First Aid Examiner must have the First Aid Award Guide).
